Twitter Working on Update to Hide Likes

twitter-working-on-update-to-hide-likes

In a recent report by Dexerto, it was leaked that popular social media platform Twitter is working on an update that would allow users to "hide their likes". While no further details were provided, it is possible that this update is aimed at Twitter Blue users, the monthly subscription that unlocks new tools for the social network. Twitter has pursued an aggressive monetization strategy since Elon Musk took over the business.

But how would hiding likes benefit users? On Twitter, much of your information is exposed to the public unless you have a private account. For example, people can easily see who you follow or which posts you have liked throughout your entire Twitter history. So, if, for instance, you liked a post about femboys five years ago, someone could find it if they have enough patience.

However, we are not a publication focused on science and technology, so why are we covering this information? Well, it turns out that this decision could be motivated by a situation involving none other than Elon Musk himself.

Twitter user "Hurt CoPain (@SaeedDiCaprio)" took it upon themselves to review the billionaire's likes and discovered that just a few hours ago (at the time of the screenshot), Musk had liked a collage of images featuring Misa Amane, the waifu from Death Note.

Let's remember that Misa Amane is presented as a 19-year-old in the story, so objectively, she is not underage. However, the user decided to criticize the magnate's taste, writing, "This guy is 51 years old. Is he really a father of ten and still looking at this on Twitter? Nah, there's no way likes won't become private after this."

What's interesting is that the post Elon Musk liked said, "If you look like her, DM me as soon as possible." In other words, the person in question is looking to meet a girl who resembles Misa Amane. And in the minds of Twitter users, if Musk liked that post, it means he thinks the same way.

In any case, the ability to hide likes on Twitter is still an unconfirmed leak, but Dexerto is definitely a reliable source, so it could be confirmed in due time. Naturally, this situation has attracted countless comments:

  • "For the modest price of $15.99, you too can hide your likes!"
  • "Don't be shy, leave them public."
  • "I can finally stop people from asking me why I like so much porn on Twitter."
  • "I can finally say in job interviews that I do have a Twitter account."
  • "This just makes it worse. If you hide your likes, there's a chance you're hiding something. It's like protecting perverts' accounts on Twitter."
  • "Hiding likes is a huge mistake. I like to explore Twitter to identify wankers, Nazis, and so on."
  • "Why complain about the ability to hide likes? It doesn't bother me. I can finally like all the boypussy I come across out there."
  • "This could cause problems because the ratio (making a post against something receive more likes than the original post) won't exist anymore. However, it can still be fixed if they add a dislike button."
  • "I can't believe I have the same taste in waifus as Elon Musk."
  • "Finally, closeted homosexuals can freely like what they want. And those who watch femboy videos can finally like the videos."
  • Please note that the opinions expressed in the comments are not representative of our publication but reflect the diversity of perspectives regarding this topic on Twitter.
