Indonesian Cosplayer Arrested for Selling Obscene Content Online

A cosplayer from Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, with the initials YRT (24), has been arrested for selling obscene content through social media. The East Kalimantan Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate uncovered the case after a cyber patrol on March 3, 2024.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Police, Kombes Pol Artanto, revealed that YRT used the Instagram account @choccolipu to post photos with s*xu*l content. Although the posts themselves were not directly suspicious, the team managed to find a link to the website ganknow.com, where YRT sold obscene photos and moaning sounds.

The suspect, YRT, who was arrested on March 4, 2024, is threatened with violating the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (ITE) and the P*rn*graphy Law. The maximum penalty is 12 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp6 billion.

In a confession to the media, YRT admitted to doing this to earn money. "I did it because it makes money," YRT said. The money was used for personal purposes, including entertainment and food.

This case reflects the complexity of regulations and ethics in the world of social media. It also serves as a warning about the risks associated with the misuse of online platforms and the need to be aware of the applicable rules.

YRT admitted to selling photos of her body and recording her moaning sounds since early January. YRT firmly stated that she did this act independently without any help from her boyfriend, family, or other parties. In fact, her family only found out about the activity after YRT was arrested.

The case is still under investigation by the East Kalimantan Police. The police are still investigating whether there are other parties involved in the case.
