'Gushing Over Magical Girls' Goes on Hiatus Due to Author's Health Issues

The Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete manga, also known as Gushing Over Magical Girls in English, is being placed on hiatus until further notice due to health problems faced by its author, Akihiro Ononaka, as announced on Storia Dash's X Account.

While the specific health issues were not disclosed, fans express hopes for Akihiro Ononaka's swift recovery, anticipating the resumption of their beloved manga series, Gushing Over Magical Girls.

Further information regarding when the manga will resume will follow at a later date as the author's health improves.

Meanwhile, Gushing Over Magical Girls began serialization in Takeshobo's Storia Dash magazine since March 29, 2019. As of the writing of this article on March 18, 2024, 11 compiled volumes have been released.

The manga also received an anime adaptation produced by Asahi Production, with its broadcast starting on January 3, 2024.

Synopsis:

A team consisting of three witch girls known as Tres Magia protects the city where Utena Hiiragi resides. Like many others, Utena admires the brave witch girls who fight for justice. However, the offer isn't what she expected, as Utena is recruited by an evil organization to fight against the witch girls she has always admired. Utena is then forced to confront Tres Magia in battle; but instead of feeling remorseful, she suddenly finds pleasure in causing pain to the witch girls. Fully surrendering to her desires, Utena embraces her role as a villain, slowly transforming her love for witch girls into a new sadistic obsession.
