Grok AI Chatbot by xAI Set to Launch for X Premium+ Users Next Week

Elon Musk, the owner of X, has confirmed that the Grok chatbot from xAI will soon be available to all Premium+ X customers "next week."

In a tweet on November 22, 2023, Musk stated, "Grok should be available to all X Premium+ subscribers next week."

Screenshots shared by app researcher Nima Owji indicate that users will be required to subscribe to Premium+ before gaining access to the Grok AI Chatbot. On the other hand, other screenshots reveal a text entry box labeled "Ask Grok" for communicating with the AI chatbot, similar to using ChatGPT, Bard, Claude, and others.

At present, Grok is not yet available to the public, but these indications suggest that the Grok launch is imminent.

Grok, initially released on November 4, 2023, for a select group of testers, is Elon Musk's response to OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Bard, Anthropic's Claude, and others. Grok has the potential to become a crucial component of the X social platform.

xAI, Musk's company, promises that Grok will have more personality than its competitors. They plan for Grok to answer user questions "with a bit of a wit" and possess a "rebellious nature." The chatbot is also expected to respond to "spicy" questions rejected by other AI systems.

However, personality is not the only thing that sets Grok apart. Grok will also have access to real-time knowledge through the X platform, although this may not always result in the highest level of accuracy in its responses.

The addition of Grok is expected to boost subscriptions for X Premium services, which have not met Musk's expectations. X recently rebranded Twitter Blue to X Premium, promising paid verification and several other features. X has also announced the separation of its services into three tiers, with Premium+ as the highest level, eliminating all ads, and introducing the Creator Hub.

Grok will be part of the Premium+ tier, expected to encourage other X users, not just content creators, to sign up. This additional revenue becomes more crucial as X faces ad cancellations due to antisemitic content and concerns related to Musk's behavior on the platform.

It is noteworthy that the Grok launch is scheduled to follow a week of drama at OpenAI, X's competitor. CEO Sam Altman was fired and joined Microsoft before returning as CEO with a new board.

Although Grok's arrival doesn't involve boardroom drama like at OpenAI, Altman commented on Grok's comedic ability. Musk responded by calling ChatGPT-4 "GPT-Snore," criticizing OpenAI's moderation policies.

Musk, as one of the founders of OpenAI, left the organization and withdrew his donation after a takeover bid was rejected. This triggered a public split and prompted Musk to establish xAI, an AI company with a veteran team from Google, OpenAI, and Tesla.

Grok has been trained on a knowledge base similar to ChatGPT and Meta's Llama 2, with real-time access to information on the X platform and web search capabilities for up-to-date information.
