The upcoming anime adaptation of Solo Leveling, based on the novel by Chugong and illustrated by Dubu in its webtoon version, has announced that it will premiere in Winter 2024.

Previously, rumors circulated that the character names, especially the main character, would be changed to names suitable for the anime adaptation in Japan. However, in reality, after the release of the latest trailer, the Solo Leveling anime adaptation will maintain the character names according to the original work.

Solo Leveling is an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures, originally a South Korean web novel written by Chugong. The novel was first published by D&C Media under their Papirus label on November 4, 2016. The English license for the Solo Leveling novel was acquired by Webnovel, titled Only I Level Up, in December 2018.

The webtoon/manhwa adaptation has been serialized on KakaoPage since March 4, 2018, illustrated by Jang Sung-rak (also known as Dubu) from Redice Studio. Season 1 of the Solo Leveling manhwa concluded on March 19, 2020, and continued with Season 2 starting on August 1, 2020, ultimately ending the main story in chapter 197 on December 29, 2021. After the completion of the main story, the Solo Leveling manhwa adaptation also continued with the Side Story, starting from prologue chapter 0 and ending in chapter 21.

The main story of Solo Leveling begins when a portal appears, connecting the human world with a world full of monsters and creatures of various kinds. Some individuals gain powers and abilities to hunt these monsters, and they are known as Hunters. The protagonist, Sung Jin-woo, is the weakest rank-E Hunter, barely stronger than a normal human.

He is dubbed by his fellow hunters as "the weakest." One day, he and others find themselves trapped in a highly dangerous underground prison, with only a few managing to survive and escape. Sung Jin-woo, who ends up alone, barely manages to survive and becomes the only one to complete all the trials in this underground prison, ultimately becoming a "Player."

By becoming a Player, he gains the ability to see a special interface that shows him missions, statistics, inventory, storage, and levels. Will he succeed in leveling up to become the strongest Hunter?

With the announcement that the Solo Leveling anime adaptation will maintain the character names according to the original work, fans can look forward to the presence of Sung Jin-woo and other characters they have come to know through the novel and webtoon. This anime adaptation is expected to bring the world of Solo Leveling to life with stunning visuals and expand the existing fan base. Winter 2024 will be an eagerly anticipated moment for Solo Leveling fans to witness Sung Jin-woo's thrilling adventures in the form of an anime adaptation.
